Program Description
Born in Newport News in 1917, Ella Fitzgerald is Hampton Roads’ most famous jazz musician. Jennifer Gammill pays tribute to her musical hero by sharing her songs and rise to fame. Students learn how to scat in signature style of the thirteen-time Grammy winner. The program features the song “This Elephant’s Gerald” by JumpinJazz Kids, a unique line of children’s music that combines classic narrative storytelling with fun, pop-influenced jazz songs. Students will dance, sing, and enjoy a jazz performance while learning about local history.
