Program Description
Newport News’ most famous Jazz musician Ella Fitzgerald was born in 1917, she loved to sing and dance growing up but didn’t know she had talent. Vocalist Jennifer Gammill pays tribute to her musical hero by sharing her songs and rise to fame. Students learn how to scat in signature style of the 13 time Grammy winner. Featuring the song “This Elephant’s Gerald” by JumpinJazz Kids, a unique line of children’s music that combines classic narrative storytelling with fun, pop-influenced jazz songs. Students will dance, sing and enjoy a jazz performance while learning about local history.
