Program Description
Classroom Residencies are creative partnerships between Coastal Virginia Wolf Trap Teaching Artists and early childhood educators as they collaborate in using the performing arts to engage children, enrich their learning, and reinforce the curriculum. Improving early childhood educators’ ability to achieve learning objectives for children in their classrooms yields a greater, more sustained impact, as teachers continue to use the arts strategies and skills they learn throughout their careers.
Five-Session Residencies are conducted by teaching artists over five days and focus on a single arts integration strategy. This is a condensed but intensive version of the 16-session Classroom Residency model. Five-Session Residencies provide direct, in-classroom services to children while emphasizing the professional development of early childhood educators, enabling them to infuse the performing arts into classroom instruction. Pricing for a five-session residency is $700
16-Session Residencies consist of four planning meetings, one classroom observation, and eleven 30-minute classroom sessions. A 15-minute debrief discussion between the classroom teacher and the teaching artist follows each classroom session. Pricing for a 16-session residency is $1,550
