Program Description
As portrayed by poet and performer Nathan Richardson, Frederick Douglass shares excerpts of a famous speech he made on women’s suffrage to the International Council of Women in Washington, D.C. in 1888. He tells about his work with notable suffragettes such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, Sojourner Truth, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, as he emphasizes equality, literacy, and civic action. At the end of the presentation, Mr. Douglass opens up the floor to unscripted questions from students.
