Program Description
Derived from the Asante people of Ghana as part of their oral tradition, Anansi trickster tales passed down wisdom from one generation to the next. Africans enslaved in the Caribbean and parts of the United States shared these tales, which then developed into Brer Rabbit stories that were written down in the 19th century American South. In “Anansi & Me,” Valerie Davis teaches students how these fables and trickster tales use animal characters to portray human strengths and weaknesses that convey folk wisdom and help us understand human nature and behavior.
