Program Description
Puppet maker and teaching artist James Cooper will lead participants in designing and constructing paper bag and/or rod puppets in preparation of creating an interactive story on a homemade puppet stage. In addition to the hands-on visual art component, this activity will focus on literacy through storytelling. Students will utilize the building blocks of creating a story (beginning, middle, and end) with basic script writing to develop a character. Using context clues, improvisation, and theater techniques, young actors will learn how to create a strong character for their puppet show.
